One thing that most people don’t realize is that there are in fact more slaves in the world today than in any other time in history. There are an estimated 27 million men, woman and children currently in bondage across the globe, being exploited for manual and sexual labor. We also don’t realize that the women in prostitution that many of us pass on a day to day basis and so quickly mislabel are not in fact there by their own choice. Every story is different; some have been trafficked, some held by a pimp and are too fearful for their lives to try and escape, some even if they have “chosen” to be on the streets have grown up in situations that have left them with little choice and their crisis is that of misplaced identity.
